Garces, Maria, RN

Consent agreement

May 5, 2019

On May 5, 2019 a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between BCCNP and Maria Garces of Surrey, BC, to remediate practice issues related to her failure to follow a resident's care plan, including her failure to obtain the resident's consent prior to providing care which resulted in resident harm.  She also failed to provide appropriate guidance and direction to a Resident Care Aide, and failed to accurately document her actions.  Following the incident, the Registrant also failed to complete a risk management report and report the incident to the Director of Care in a timely fashion, and according to agency policy.

The Registrant has voluntarily agreed to a one month suspension for the conduct. She will also complete remedial education related to professional ethics and informed consent, and complete a Regulatory Practise Consultation program to discuss her learnings.

The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
