Lakusta, Janet, RN

Consent agreement

Dec 17, 2019

On December 17, 2019 a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between BCCNP and RN Janet Lakusta of Vancouver to remediate practice issues related to the unauthorized possession and removal of a significant amount of confidential patient information from the Registrant's workplace, and the negligent transport of said information for a significant period of time.  While the Registrant had legitimate access to the information for employment purposes at the outset, her handling, storage and transport of the records constituted a breach of professional standards.

The Registrant has voluntarily agreed to a three month suspension (that may be reduced to two months pending the completion of specific education). This will be followed by a return to nursing practise pursuant to a condition, namely she must work under a supervisor agreement for six months requiring the periodic audit of the Registrant's access to and handling of records. Education and disclosure terms are also included.

The Inquiry Committee is satisfied that the terms will protect the public.
