Consent agreement

Sep 6, 2020

On September 6, 2020, a panel of the Inquiry Committee approved a Consent Agreement between BCCNP and Jeremy David Byl of Hope, BC, to remediate practice issues that occurred between January and February 2018 related to violations of professional boundaries with a client, which involved inappropriate comments and physical contact with the client while under his care, and then engaging in an approximately one-month relationship with that client immediately upon the client's discharge. The Registrant's position as healthcare provider placed him in an unbalanced power differential and he failed to act according to the professional standards for which he was solely responsible.

The Registrant has voluntarily agreed to terms equivalent to a condition on practice, including: a 12-month suspension from nursing practice, a reprimand, meeting with a BCCNP Practice Support Consultant to complete a self-assessment identifying the circumstances leading to the misconduct and preventing its recurrence, and instructor-based coursework.
