Parniak, Amanda, RN

Discipline order

Sep 3, 2020

A panel of the Discipline Committee (the "Panel") of the British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (the "BCCNP") conducted a hearing under section 39 of the Health Professions Act (the "Act"), into the conduct of Amanda Parniak, a registered nurse.

The Panel found that Ms. Parniak breached standards established by the BCCNP under the Act and committed professional misconduct by engaging in diverting narcotics, hydromorphone, and falsifying medical documentation over a 6 month period.

The Panel held that the magnitude of the drug diversion and falsification of medical documentation was "significant". The patients adversely affected by Ms. Parniak's conduct were "vulnerable persons". The Panel found Ms. Parniak's conduct, taken in the aggregate, represented "a pattern of professional misconduct which is disgraceful, dishonourable and unbecoming of a member of the profession. It is also a marked departure from the conduct which the College expects of its registrants."

The full decision of the Panel can be found here.

The Panel will deliberate on the appropriate penalty and costs and that decision will be made public when final.

Inquiry should be directed to media@bccnm.ca.
