The modules are segmented into topic areas, so you can either complete the modules in their entirety or select a single topic area to focus on. This module provides
nurse practitioners with the relevant legislation and BCCNP competencies, standards, limits and conditions to prescribe controlled drugs and substances (CDS) in British Columbia.
CDS prescribing is a complex area of practice with high rates of morbidity and mortality associated with drug interactions, overdose and addictions. The competencies associated with this practice are distinct and beyond those related to prescribing generally. As such, the BCCNP Standard for CDS prescribing outlines a number of related conditions, including the requirement to successfully complete one of three foundational courses accepted by BCCNP in controlled drugs and substances prescribing and this CDS prescribing learning module.

Are you an internationally educated nurse who has never been registered in Canada? If so, this learning module is for you.
We have put together this short module to walk you through the application process. We've included important information to support your journey in applying to be a practising registered nurse in British Columbia. In addition, this module explores some important aspects of nursing in British Columbia. You'll learn about self-regulation and how BCCNP plays a role in nursing regulation.
Jurisprudence is a legal term that refers to the study or knowledge of law. Nursing jurisprudence is law that relates specifically to nursing practice. All nurses should be familiar with the laws and legislation that affects their practice.
This module examines how jurisprudence applies to a nurse's practice. The module takes about 1.5 hours to complete. There are several case studies, related resources and self-quizzes to help nurses learn about jurisprudence. The jurisprudence module is suitable for nurses at any stage of their nursing career.
Starting in September 2016, all BCCNP applicants must complete the jurisprudence module and declare
on their registration application that they've completed the module.
There is no formal test or quiz required to meet BCCNP's RN registration requirements.

Whether working with students as learners or as Employed Students Nurses (ESNs), RNs already supervise students in both these roles. However, nurses in education and clinical settings have asked for more clarity around RN and NP responsibilities. Therefore, the Regulatory Supervision and Employed Student Registrant Practice Standards were introduced to define these responsibilities. These practice standards help everyone understand their role when working with student learners and ESNs. It guides the process nurses choose to use with students and clarifies their accountabilities. To help put these new Standards into practice, we produced the Working with Students learning module.
