About registration renewal

Registration renewal for the 2019-20 practice year runs from Jan. 2 to Feb. 28, 2019.

  • Registrants must complete the online renewal process, including full payment of renewal fees, by 4:30 pm on Feb. 28 (Feb. 29 in a leap year).
  • The RN and NP practice year is March 1 to Feb. 28 (29 in a leap year).
  • Nurses who do not renew their practising registration by Feb. 28 must apply to return to practising registration (reinstatement) and pay an additional fee.
  • Practising without current registration (unregistered practice) is a breach of the Health Professions Act that results in personal risk, additional fees and possibility of prosecution.

How to renew

Renewal takes about 25–30 minutes.

  • Meet Quality Assurance and other requirements
  • Update your employment history and contact information.
  • Submit fee. Pay by credit card or Interac transfer. Payment must be made by Feb. 28 for your registration to be activated.

You must renew each year even if you spread your fees over the year.

Do I need to renew by Feb. 1 even though my registration doesn’t expire until Feb. 28 at 23:59 hours?
We always recommend that you renew early. We want you to give yourself enough time that if an unexpected problem occurs, you can still renew and be legally entitled to practise on March 1.
Are registration fees refundable?

You may be entitled to a refund. There is a $100 non-refundable change status fee. For more information, visit Leaving or returning to nursing practice.

What do I need to do to renew my certified practice designation?

When you renew, choose the RN with Certified Practice or NP with Certified Practice application option.

In addition to general renewal requirements, you will be asked to complete two personal practice review (continuing competence) questions about the certified designation(s) you have qualified for with BCCNP.

I have Provisional Registration. Do I need to renew my registration?

If your condition(s) expires after Feb. 28 (Feb. 29 in a leap year), you can renew your registration. Check your conditions and the expiry dates

If you are not sure if you can renew, please contact us.

I’ll be away and am planning to renew late, what do I need to know?

Renewal is 100% online so you can renew from anywhere with an Internet connection. If your accommodations don't have Internet service, try Internet cafes or libraries. It is crucial to renew before the Feb. 28 deadline so that your registration doesn't expire. If your registration expires, you will need to apply to reinstate it and pay a $105 (including tax) change status fee, on top of your renewal fee.
