The facility where you work as an LPN is implementing electronic documentation. What is the best way for you to prepare for the upcoming technological changes in your practice?

A: Speak to other nurses about their problems with the new documentation system.

That’s not correct. While speaking with colleagues may be helpful, they may not be the most accurate or credible resource in this situation. See Professional Standard 2: Competency-Based Practice.

B: Participate in employer provided education about electronic documentation.

Correct! Participating in employer provided training is the most accurate and credible source of information about electronic documentation. See Professional Standard 2: Competency-Based Practice.

C: Google articles on electronic documentation systems.

That’s not correct. While Google can be a source of information, it may not be the most accurate or credible resource in this situation. See Professional Standard 2: Competency-Based Practice.

D: Refer to a facility policy manual when a procedure is unclear.

That’s not correct. While a facility manual may be a helpful resource after you participate in the training, it may not be the best way to prepare for the upcoming changes.

LPNs respond and adapt to changes in their practice environment. LPNs know how and where to access information to support and provide safe, competent and ethical nursing practice and care for clients. See Professional Standard 2: Competency-Based Practice.
