Registration renewal for registered nurses (RNs) and nurse practitioners (NPs) starts January 2, 2020. Here’s what you need to know:
Registration renewal deadline: Friday, Feb. 28 at 4:30 p.m.
Registration renewal closes at 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 28 (or Feb. 29 in a leap year), unless the date falls on the weekend or a holiday. In that case, the renewal deadline is 4:30 p.m. on the last weekday of the month.
This year, February 29 falls on a Saturday. This means registration renewal will end on Friday, Feb. 28 at 4:30 p.m. As always, we recommend you submit your completed application and payment well in advance of the Feb. 28 deadline in order to maintain your registration.

As we shared in October, registration fees for 2020-21 are increasing, and NPs will see an increase in their CNPS professional liability protection fee.
In partnership and collaboration with the First Nations Health Authority (FNHA), BCCNP has been asked to support the data collection of current and future BC First Nations and other Aboriginal health professionals in B.C. Registrants will have the option of answering two questions on their registration renewal application in 2020:
In 2020, the provincial nursing association Nurses and Nurse Practitioners of BC (NNPBC) is moving to a voluntary membership model. NNPBC membership will be
optional for all B.C. nurses. NPs, RNs and RPNs will have the opportunity to purchase their NNPBC membership – which includes Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) membership – when they renew their registration. If selected, the NNPBC membership fee of $129.83
will be added to the registrant’s invoice.
March 1, 2020, reinstatement applications to practising registration will cost $225+GST, an increase of $125+GST for NPs, RNs and RPNs. This aligns the cost of reinstating across the nursing designations, and reflects the work associated with assessing applications to ensure individuals returning to practice are able to practise safely, competently and ethically. Refund processing (when a registrant requests to cancel registration) will be reduced from $100+GST to $75+GST.
If you are leaving or returning to practice during renewal or at some point during 2020, check out the
changing your registration status during renewal page to learn more about your options.
