Volunteer opportunity: Field testing the NCAS assessment

Jan 21, 2020

Are you a recent RN or LPN grad interested in a unique opportunity to support the nursing profession? To enhance BC's capacity to build a safe and competent health workforce? If this sounds like you, the Nursing Community Assessment Service (NCAS) needs your input.

Field testing the Computer-Based Assessment

NCAS runs a competency assessment for nurses who are either returning to practice or who are educated internationally and seeking to practice in B.C. We're seeking recent grads and graduating students to help field test both the RN and LPN Computer-based Assessment (CBA).

The CBA is a three-hour assessment that seeks to assess one's knowledge of the skills and competencies required to enter nursing practice in BC.

To be considered for participation, applicants must:

  • have graduated in 2018 or 2019 from either a BCCNP-recognized registered nursing education program or licensed practical nursing education program

  • be graduating in the next six months from a BCCNP-recognized registered nursing education program

Important: You do NOT need to study to prepare for this assessment. Your results are anonymous and will be used only for the purpose of evaluating the quality of the exam itself.

Will I receive any compensation for volunteering?

You will receive a $100 honorarium for your participation.

What's involved?

You will come to the testing site, complete the CBA and then complete a survey. You will be asked to sign a confidentiality agreement at the start of the assessment. The assessment takes about three hours to complete.

When and where does the field test take place?

The field testing takes place at the BCCNP offices at 900 – 200 Granville Street in Vancouver. There are three sessions available:

  • January 30, 2020
  • January 31, 2020
  • February 3, 2020
