The BCCNP board on April 23, 2020 approved a new harmonized
Consent practice standard. The revised standard will come into effect May 18, 2020, and will apply to all four nursing designations: LPN, NP, RN and RPN.
When the three legacy nursing colleges amalgamated in 2018 to form BCCNP, the college set a goal to harmonize standards where possible between the various nursing designations. Work had started in February 2019, and has continued.
This work provides an opportunity for BCCNP to harmonize the language and ensure the guidance is the same for all designations. And, while harmonized, these standards still reflect the distinct scope of practice for each nursing designation.
Part of the review to develop this new standard included
soliciting feedback from registrants on the draft standards (we received almost 1100 responses!), as well as jurisdictional, literature, policy, and legal reviews.
