Seeking item reviewers for new PN exam

The British Columbia College of Nursing Professionals (BCCNP) is seeking your help as we develop a new practical nursing (PN) regulatory exam. Specifically, we need the assistance of nurses who work with new LPNs to review items prepared for the exam

This volunteer opportunity gives you a chance to participate on a panel that will review the new PN exam questions to ensure they reflect entry-level practice of LPNs in Canada.

To be considered for participation, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Be knowledgeable about the current LPN practice including LPN scope of practice and entry-level LPN practice
  • Be employed as an RN, RPN or LPN for at least two years
  • Be currently employed in clinical nursing practice and working directly with nurses who have entered nursing practice during the past 12 months OR be currently employed as a clinical instructor (8 hours minimum per week), preferably working with senior level practical nurse students
  • Registered with BCCNP in good standing

In addition, you will need to…

  • have your employer's permission to be released from work duties and/or be available on your own time to participate in the review panel activities
  • be able to commit to reviewing a one-hour pre-recorded orientation ahead of the meeting
  • be able to attend a six-hour (0830-1430) remote panel meeting (Nov. 3 or Nov. 4, 2020)

and you must not have…

  • participated in developing a national, provincial or territorial nursing exam within the past two years.

You will also need a high-speed Internet connection and laptop with microphone and video capabilities to participate in the session.

Email your name and up-to-date resume to by noon on September 21, 2020. Indicate in the email that you are applying to be an item reviewer.

How and when will I know if I am selected?

If you are selected to participate in the item review panel, we will contact you with next steps by early October 2020.
