Seeking volunteers for field testing of the NCAS assessment

Nov 15, 2018

Are you interested in a unique opportunity to support the nursing profession? To assess your own nursing knowledge and skills? To enhance B.C.'s capacity to build a safe and competent nursing workforce?

The Nursing Community Assessment Service (NCAS) needs you!

NCAS runs a competency assessment for nurses who are either returning to practice or who are educated internationally and seeking to practice in B.C.  You can read more about NCAS and our assessment service at www.ncasbc.ca.

Field testing the Simulation Lab and Oral Assessment

We are looking for both recent graduates and students on the cusp of graduating to help us field test our RN Simulation Lab and Oral Assessment (SLA/OA). The assessment offers you the opportunity to engage with actors and mannequins, and to practice your nursing skills in a variety of true-to-life health care settings.

Deadline for applications is 9 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, 2018.

What will I need to do if I volunteer?

Complete the Simulation Lab Assessment and provide feedback on the testing stations following the assessment. At the lab, you will be taken to four different stations. Each station will focus on one clinical scenario. Some stations will have a mannequin, while others may use a specially-trained actor acting in the role of a patient. You will engage with actors and mannequins as you move through four stations of unfolding case scenarios.

To be considered for participation, applicants must:

  • Have graduated within the last six months, or be graduating in the next six months from a BCCNP-recognized registered nurse program.
  • NOT have taken the NCAS assessment previously.
  • NOT be intending to complete the NCAS assessment for at least one year after participating in the field test exercise.

When and where does the field test exercise take place?

Testing will take place on December 2, 6 and 7 in the Nursing Simulation Centre at Langara College.

Will I receive any compensation for volunteering?

You will receive a $100 honorarium for your participation.

How do I apply

Interested applicants should email their names and an up-to-date resume to info@ncasbc.ca. Indicate in the email if you are available on one, or all, of the following dates: December 2, December 6 and December 7.

How and when will I know if I am selected?

We'll contact all volunteer applicants, whether they are selected or not, no later than Dec. 1, 2018. We'll provide those who've been selected with next steps at that time.

Who can I contact if I have any questions?

Email Jodi Dattadeen, NCAS Coordinator at info@ncasbc.ca.
