A significant amount of the college and board
work is actually done by the committees. The college functions with two
kinds of committees: Regulatory Committees that support the core regulatory
functions of the college and board support that exist to support the important
work of the board.
Reviews and decides whether to approve or deny non-routine applications for initial registration, annual renewal and reinstatement.
Receives complaint information or information that could give rise to an own motion investigation, directs the investigation process and subsequently assesses whether remedial and/or disciplinary action against a registrant is warranted.
Hears allegations of professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity referred to it by the Inquiry Committee, and if allegations are proven, determines an appropriate remedy following its deliberation of the facts presented by all parties.
Develops, administers and maintains a QA program to ensure the safe, ethical and competent practice of registrants.

Reviews and develops recommendations pertaining to the standards of practice (including scope of practice) or professional ethics for nursing professionals.
Directs the development and administration of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) and scores the OSCE nurse practitioner registration examinations.
Provides advice on all financial administration matters, the effectiveness of internal controls and risk management activities, and facilitates independent audits.
Helps the board assess its own effectiveness, composition and development - as well as that of its committees and individual board and committee members - through regular analysis, performance evaluation, professional development and education. It also identifies critical issues that might affect the board's strategy or composition needs.
Administers the election and, through active recruitment, assists the board in finding appropriate candidates for each vacancy available at board and committee level.
Oversees and facilitates performance and compensation reviews for the Registrar/CEO on behalf of the board, and provides recommendations on succession planning and any other matters pertaining to Registrar/CEO oversight.
