Public advisory: Madison Zarazun
BCCNP is in receipt of information that an individual named Madison Zarazun has been holding herself out as a registered nurse in British Columbia in order to seek employment as a RN or caregiver. This notice is to advise the public that Madison Zarazun is not a current registrant of BCCNP and she is not authorized to practise as a registered nurse in British Columbia.
Deputy registrar, Inquiry & Discipline
BCCNP is pleased to welcome Etienne van Eck as deputy registrar, Inquiry & Discipline. Etienne brings 16 years of experience in professional regulation, including eight years as Director of Investigations for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of B.C., and eight years as an investigator with the Law Society of B.C.
Volunteer opportunity: new practical nurse exam item review
BCCNP is seeking nurses who work with new LPNs to review items prepared for the new practical nurse exam. Volunteers will participate on a pael that will review the new PN exam questions to ensure they reflect entry-level practice of LPNs in Canada. Learn more about the requirements and how to apply before June 28, 2019.
Harmonized practice standards approved
Four harmonized practice standards—Documentation, Duty to Provide Care, Duty to Report and Privacy & Confidentiality—have been approved by the BCCNP board and will come into effect on July 22, 2019 for all B.C. nursing professionals (LPNs, NPs, RNs and RPNs).TBD
NPs can now authorize cannabis
The Scope of Practice for Nurse Practitioners: Standards, Limits and Conditions has been updated to allow NPs to provide a medical document to suppor the medical use of cannabis. This change comes into effect on July 22, 2019.
Ministry of Health releases Cayton Report
In April, the Minister of Health released the Cayton Report, comprised of a review of the College of Dental Surgeons of BC as well as a broader review of health care regulation in our province. The report outlines recommendations for significant change to the Health Professions Act and the regulatory framework for health professionals in B.C.
